With the striking of the gavel, this year's Division 11/12 Convention ended the same way it ended, with a "bang."
Even though Chapter 1179 did not receive the Division First Term Airman of the Year award, A1C Mueller was still a winner, according to CMSAF (ret) Sam Parish, the guest speaker for the banquet. "The host will not refer to any of these award nominees as a winner," CMSAF Parish said. "To announce a winner, means that there was a loser, and none of these airmen are losers."
Chapter 1179 did walk away with the Division Web Site of the Year award, which means it will now compete at International for the AFSA Web Site of the Year. MSgt David A. Bamburg, who is the webmaster for the Chapter's site, is also now designing the new Division 11 website, currently located at www.afsa11.cityslide.com.
In addition to the web award, CMSgt (ret) Bob Tomlinson received the President's Award from Division 11 President, SSgt Heidi Stogsdill, for his hard work and dedication , working to better AFSA, and Division 11. Chapter 1179 also received the "Stustainer Award" for contributing $2,500 in cumulative donations to AFSA worthy charities.
This weekend also saw four Chapter members continue, or take new postitions on the Division 11 Executive Counsel. CMSgt Tomlinson continue his role as Treasurer, and SSgt Liz Torres was asked by President Stogsdill to remain as Secretary. MSgt Hale was elected to finish a 1-year term as Legislative Trustee, and MSgt Bamburg was appointed as Communications Trustee.
Members of Chapter 1179 are already looking forward to next year's convention, which will be hosted by Chpater 1261, and take place in Tuscon, AZ. Now comes the task of informing even more about the goals and benefits of AFSA, and make sure that all "Remember the Past, and Look to the Future."
