Chapter 1179 helps Nellis Airmen

25 Apr 2005

Most Airmen know there are base organizations to help them when the going gets rough and they need help to get through a predicament.  Two Airmen found that out first-hand recently when the Air Force Sergeants Association’s Chapter 1179 of Denver, CO, came to their rescue.

Airman 1st Class Kenson Desinor and his wife Airman 1st Class Colstrum Desinor, both from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., Chapter 1252, were visiting the Denver area because he was competing for the Division 12 First Term Airman of the Year award during the Joint Division 11/12 Annual Convention     Even though Airman Colstrum Desinor was seven months pregnant prior to the couple’s trip to the Denver area, her doctor cleared her to travel here for her husband’s competition.  But after arriving here, her blood pressure began getting high and she started experiencing contractions so doctor’s here restricted her travel and placed her on bed-rest.

“This was a totally unexpected incident,” said Airman Colstrum Desinor.  “At first, the doctor was trying to prolong my labor as much as possible.  But because of my high blood pressure, I was at risk of  Preeclampsia so the doctor decided to induce my labor.”

When the Desinor’s began feeling overwhelmed and that they had nobody to turn to in an unfamiliar city, they fully realized how big and close-knit the Air Force family is.

“When we thought we were alone, fellow members came to our rescue,” Airman Kenson Desinor said.  “Master Sgt. (Kevin) Hale, Chapter 1179’s , President, tirelessly drove back and forth to the hospital in his personal vehicle.  Master Sgt. David Bamburg Chapter 1179’s Vice-President and Sergeant Hale worked diligently to get us on orders.”

Buckley officials were made aware of the Desinors’ situation through Chapter 1179.  Chief Master Sgt. Rene Simard, 460th Space Wing command chief, Mr. Bob Tomlinson, Chapter 1179 Senior Advisor, and Tech. Sgt. Bryan Dean, 460th Security Forces Squadron, and AFSA 1179 member, helped where just a few who helped the Desinor family during their stay in Denver.  TSgt Dean was the one who initially drove the Desinors to the Emergency Room, and continued to shuttle Kenson back and forth during the Convention.

“Helping the Desinor family has been really awesome,”  MSgt Hale said.  “It has warmed my heart and showed that the Air Force Sergeants Association is family no matter where you are from and it put true meaning in the words from our preamble,’…our interest in the welfare of persons who served and are serving in the Air Force, our devotion to our fellow Airman in fortune or distress…’”

While the Desinors were in the area, organizations such as the Top-3, the Family Support Center, Warm heart, AFSA Division 11 and Chapter 1179, Buckley Spouses Group, and several other personnel around base made contributions totaling more than $700.

“Part of our preamble talks about helping our fellow Airmen in distress,” MSgt Bamburg said.  “This was one of those times.”

So after Buckley personnel worked “tirelessly” to make sure the Desinors were taken care of in every way needed, they were able to bring Aliyah Renee Desinor into the world with a few less worries.  The Desinors say Aliyah is doing very well and returned to Nellis AFB on 20 May 05.

Now that the ordeal is past, the Desinors both agree that the Buckley personnel and organizations that came to their aid shows the high caliber of the personnel and organizations found here.

“The best part of these organizations is their concern and their willingness to help,” Airman Kenson Desinor said.  “When we add everything together, we find that Buckley Air Force Base represents the Air Force in its highest level of quality of life.”
