Over $600 raised
21 Feb 2006

While many people paid $110s, sometimes $1,000s of dollars to attend the AFC Championship Game with the Denver Broncos taking on the Pittsburg Steelers, members of Team Buckley not only attended the game, they were paid to do so.
For the past several years, groups from Buckley AFB and many of its tenant units have worked events such as the Denver Bronco games, Rodeo, NBA All-Star game, and concerts at Red Rock. All this is in coordination with Contemporary Services Corporation (CSC) which provides security details and volunteer workers to NFL games, and other events in the area, and allows area groups the opportunity to earn money for everyone who volunteers.
“The opportunity of being part of such a big event while helping a great cause made it a great experience,” SSgt Yesenia Fernandez of Chapter 1179 said. “Despite the cold weather conditions, everything else made up for participating is such a memorable event.”
For working the Steelers and the previous game with the Patriots, Chapter 1179 was able to earn over $600. This money will be used to pay cost associated with sending the 2005 FTAY winner to the 2006 Division 11/12 Joint Convention in Tucson, AZ. Working football games is just one of the many ways CSC helps organizations raise money.
“Contemporary Services Corporation has used numerous military groups in years past at special events such as the Super Bowl, Olympics and in many venues all across the country,” Gabe Perea, Event Manager for CSC, said. “We use our military for their expertise and their ability to take a proactive approach in crowd management.”
Working the games gave 10 Chapter 1179 members the opportunity to not only raise money to help the chapter, but it gave them memories to last a life time. “Seeing as it was my first time to attend a NFL football game, SrA Natalie Napier, one of the chapter’s newest members, said. “It was quite exciting for me and I actually got into it.”
