SMSgt Aubrey Cheatham, May 1997 - May 1998

     Senior Master Sergeant R. Aubrey Cheatham was the First Sergeant assigned to the 566th Operations Support Squadron at Buckley Air National Guard Base, Colorado when he retired in March of 1999. Sergeant Cheatham entered the Air Force in February 1979. After completing Basic Military Training and the Security Police Academy at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, Sergeant Cheatham was assigned to various worldwide security police duties for the next 13 years. Assignments included the 342nd Missile Security Squadron, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana; 43rd Security Police Squadron, Andersen Air Force Base, Guam; 5073rd Air Base Group, Shemya Air Force Base, Alaska; 90th Missile Security Squadron, F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming; 7061st Munitions Support Squadron, Araxos Radio Relay Location, Greece; and 89th Security Police Squadron and 90th Security Police Group, F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming. Sergeant Cheatham became a First Sergeant in 1992 and has been assigned to the 90th Security Police Squadron, F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming; Detachment 16, 99th Electronic Range Group, Powell, Wyoming; and Headquarters Air Reserve Personnel Center, Denver, Colorado.

      Sergeant Cheatham holds a Master of Science degree in management from Lesley College, Cambridge Massachusetts. He earned an Associate of Science degree in criminal justice in 1981 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in sociology in 1982 from the College of Great Falls, Great Falls, Montana. He also earned Associate of Applied Science degrees in security administration and personnel management from the Community College of the Air Force in 1991 and 1993 respectively. Sergeant Cheatham graduated from the NCO Leadership School in 1985, the NCO Academy in 1989, and the Senior NCO Academy in 1997; all in residence.
      Sergeant Cheatham’s awards and accomplishments include: Distinguished Graduate, Air Force Supervisor’s Course, 1983; 43rd Strategic Wing “Giant Sword” Combat Weapons Loading Competition security police team, 1983; John Levitow honor graduate, NCO Leadership School, 1985; 5073rd Air Base Group NCO of the Quarter, 1985; 90th Missile Wing “Olympic Arena” Missile Combat Competition security police team leader, 1987; Distinguished Graduate, Ground Launch Cruise Missile training 1987; 90th Missile Wing Senior NCO of the Year 1991; and Honor Graduate, United States Air Force First Sergeant Academy, 1992.
      Sergeant Cheatham’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster.
      Aubrey is currently the Public Safety Director in Campbell County, Virginia where he is responsible for the coordination of Fire/EMS, E911 Communications, Emergency Management, and Animal Control Services. He holds certifications as a Firefighter II, Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Investigator, and Professional Emergency Manager. 
      Aubrey is a life member of the Air Force Sergeant’s Association, Lifetime Trustee for Division 11 of the Association,  and lives on a farm in central Virginia with his wife Alecia and daughter Carissa.
