MSgt (ret) Robert (Bob) Doherty Jr.


1 May 1987

I was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Wyandanch Long Island. I graduated Copiague High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Law Enforcement Specialist. My military assignments included: Ent AFB, Colorado, as a patrol person and entry controller; Sondrestrom AB, Greenland, as a patrolman /desk sergeant; Plattsburgh AFB, NY, as a law enforcement flight chief; special duty assignments Lowry Technical Training Center (LTTC), Co, as a correctional trainer and quality assurance supervisor and then Director of Education for a Professional Military Education (PME) Center. I was reassigned to Tempelhof Central Airport, Berlin, Germany as Superintendent of Law Enforcement and the squadron’s first sergeant. Finally, I was assigned to Williams AFB, AZ, as Superintendent of Quality Assurance for Law Enforcement Operations.

   My military honors included the 7350th ABG Senior NCO of the Year (1988); Lowry Technical Training Center (LTTC) and Aurora Colorado Military Person of the Year (1987); LTTC NCO of the Year (1986); Air Training Command PME Manager of the Year (1985); and the 3320th Correction and Rehabilitation Squadron NCO of the Year (1983).

   My military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (awarded twice); Air Force Commendation medal (awarded three times); and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (awarded five times).

   As a two - term president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter 1179 Air Force Sergeant’s Association (AFSA), the chapter was awarded AFSA Chapter of the Year (1986); I was also awarded the AFSA President’s Leadership Excellence Award (1987).

   I have a M.A. Organizational Communication and Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado (1983); B.A. Business Administration from Columbia College, MO (1988); B.A. Sociology and Criminal Justice from the State University of New York, Plattsburgh (1981); AAS Instructor of Technology, Community College of the Air Force, AL (1985); and AAS Criminal Justice, Clinton Community College, NY (1979).

   I have been teaching the communication programs for Chandler Gilbert Community College for over 11 years. I have taught college courses for City Colleges of Chicago (88-91), University of Maryland (88-91), Central Texas College (88-91), Mesa Community College (94-95), and Central Arizona College (91-03).

   I was married to an inspirational woman, the former Mary Trombley of Plattsburgh, NY, who passed away due to complications of cancer. I have four great children: George, Tammy, Heidi, and Robert III. I also have six lovely grandchildren: David, Megan, Ian, Alex, Tyler, and Katie.
