Yes, if you are Air Force Sergeant David Bamburg. (Or, as he calls himself: MSgt (Ret) “Super Dave” Bamburg) I spoke about a year ago to the Air Force Sergeant’s Association and was amazed and honored to be in front of this terrific group. (Hey! The Air Force needs speakers too… and given our state of war, probably more than the rest of us.)
(See that post here.)
As part of my motivational speech, I had a joke relating to how we need to sometimes actively do things to make our lives fun. I talked about “Getting On Board” and also “Riding the Pony.” It was a metaphor. A joke.
My new friend Sergeant Bamburg was in the audience and he has taken that joke to heart. He has clearly “gotten on board.” He has sent me photos of him riding a pony outside of a store (the 1¢ machine pony) and now check out his latest letter and photo.
Brad — The fun never dies. We recently had our AFSA Division convention in Las Vegas, NV. I couldn’t resist bringing along a friends stick pony. Yes, they even allowed it on the plane. The photo is of our chapter’s NCO nominee, MSgt Bryan Dean, and one of the 11th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, CMSgt (ret) Dave Campanale. I tried to get Bryan to hold the pony and we he refused, the Chief grabbed it from me and said he’d do it. “How Cool is That” What was even better is the pony made horse sounds when you pressed its ear. — DAVID A. BAMBURG, GS-05, USAF
He gets it. He is having fun, because he is MAKING his life fun. He is doing wacky stuff, and the result can be seen in the smile on his face. What are you doing to Get On Board? What are YOU doing to actively create fun?
Thanks David. Ride that pony!
Looking for a military speaker or a motivational speaker for your military event? I hope you’ll consider me.

In case you are interested, in your pictures I was the female who was unnamed. I was Coral E. Wilson at the time and am now Coral E. Thomas. I am currently the secretary of Division 4. I was a charter member of chapter 1179, however since I was a veteran and not active or retired, they weren’t sure what to do with me. At that time there were very few women in AFSA. So, they had me sign the charter as secretary. Later, AFSA changed the bylaws to show that veterans are part of AFSA and eventually changed the Trustee for Retired Affairs to Trustee for Retired and Veteran Affairs. I left Colorado in September 1984 and moved to California where I was active (trustee and vice president) of Division 13. In 1995 I moved to Tennessee and became active with Division 4. I have held the office of Trustee for Tennessee, Treasurer and currently Secretary there. The reason I switched to Secretary is because I married Jim Thomas, Division 4 current President, and decided I would have to do the work for him anyway so may as well take the title.
I have been an active member of AFSA since joining at Lowry and have attended 31 International conventions! Also lots of Division ones in several divisions.

You have a very impressive and informative site. Our Chapter 171 does not have a permanent home as there aren't any active bases in our area. I am not computer literate but have managed to put up a bare bones site: http://mysite.verizon.net/reswyq49/afsa_chapter_171_a171/ Bob, President 171

Cheers.

I found myself ego-surfing and see you have me listed as a past president. True, true. I was president for only one year, so 82-83 is probably correct.
I'm now in the Northern Virginia area.

The excitement of AFSA is at the chapter level. You can do more good things for more people than at any other level. Plus you can upchannel questions and concerns to the next level for their action. AFSA members are my kind of people and have earned my respect.

Wow - what a surprise. Great job on the website. Brings back some great memories from when we reorganized the chapter in 1979 and got things going again. I look forward to exploring it further.
